Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Sixth Edition of this bestselling handbook includes over 70 new drug monographs, as well as updated dosages and information for older monographs. A separate section on topical medications has been added, and sections on ophthalmic drugs and small animal therapeutic diets have been updated. Completely new to the Sixth Edition is a two-color format and new monograph layout, which enables faster access to much-needed information. The Sixth Edition features new overdose information from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center on 50 of the drugs most commonly associated with animal overdoses, and a new appendix on overdose decontamination.

Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook is available in an 8 ½ x 11-inch desk size for enhanced readability and ease of use, as well as the convenient pocket size and electronic formats. Plumb’s one-volume coverage of drugs approved for veterinary species and non-approved (human) drugs that are used in veterinary practices today make this book an essential reference for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary pharmacologists, pharmacists with veterinary patients, animal research or zoological facilities, and libraries that serve these groups.

4 out of 5 stars Plumb's   November 1, 2009

Book is great. Type is a bit smaller in this "pocket" version, but all the same info as the larger copy.

This is a very useful and easy to use reference. Its easy to review dosages and drug interactions at a glance

5 out of 5 stars Must Have Resource for Pet Care   August 28, 2009

Plumb is the best for medical pet care advice. This is the big desktop version.

5 out of 5 stars The best in print   April 10, 2009

Simply the most complete, comprehensive and informative reference I have found to date. I am a pharmacist who works in a medical ICU (for people). I have been looking for something like this so that I can better manage the medications for my 2 dogs - both of who have many health issues. It has been invaluable!

As anyone who has attended veterinary school can attest to, good books are both a saving grace and an incredible burden.

Plumb is an incredible resource, providing detailed information on an expansive list of drugs. Truly this is a comprehensive and invaluable resource for any veterinary student and I'd imagine I'll be using the updated version of the desk reference in practice when I graduate (and can afford it).

However, this pocket version is simply not worth your money. Merely three days after I received this in the mail the binding started cracking and now several pages are falling out. This is a thick book and probably should have been bound in hardcover like the Merck manual, which is comparable in size. For something that costs over twice as much as the Merck, this cost saving measure is unwarranted and unappreciated.

So as the title states, I'm disappointed with my purchase. I'm a person that takes good care of my reference materials so that they last and this literally started falling apart in days. If you absolutely need this text, I'd suggest buying the desk reference instead. A classmate of mine opted for that version and while it is also paperback, its pages are significantly wider which limits its thickness and she's had no problems with the binding thus far.
