Amazon.com Review
Pete Egoscue learned a lot about pain when, as a Marine officer, he was wounded in Vietnam. He segued from patient to physical therapist, and now runs a famous clinic in San Diego, where he claims he's helped 95 percent of his patients cure chronic pain--including Jack Nicklaus and Charles Barkley, whose athletic careers he helped prolong. At the heart of his program are stretches and motion exercises to restore proper function to muscles and joints. His methods are often surprising and counterintuitive. For example, for foot pain, he suggests a series of hip exercises. In fact, this is one of the most startling books you'll read about the human organism. Egoscue has strong opinions about how modern life is changing the way our bodies function, reducing the tasks we must perform and thus reducing the functional range of motion of our muscles and joints. Fortunately, he offers movement exercises to restore what nature meant us to have.

Product Description
Starting today, you don't have to live in pain.

That is the revolutionary message of this breakthrough system for eliminating chronic pain without drugs, surgery, or expensive physical therapy. Developed by Pete Egoscue, a nationally renowned physiologist and sports injury consultant to some of today's top athletes, the Egoscue Method has an astounding 95 percent success rate. The key is a series of gentle exercises and carefully constructed stretches called E-cises. Inside you'll find detailed photographs and step-by-step instructions for dozens of motioncizes specifically designed to provide quick and lasting relief of:

  • Lower back pain, hip problems, sciatica, and bad knees
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and even some forms of arthritis
  • Migraines and other headaches, stiff neck, fatigue, sinus problems, vertigo, and TMJ
  • Shin splints, varicose veins, sprained or weak ankles, and many foot ailments
  • Bursitis, tendinitis, and rotator cuff problems
  • Plus special preventive motioncise programs for maintaining health through the entire body.

With this book in hand, you're on your way to regaining the greatest gift of all: a pain-free body!

5 out of 5 stars Pain Free by Pete Egoscue   November 7, 2009
Jill Taylor (Seattle, WA United States)
I bought this book after using the method for hip pain. It worked and the pain has never returned. I think everyone should have this book. It is like have first aid for all kinds of muscle/skeletal problems. It seems to address issues that even chiropratic and other physical therapy doesn't. I intend to buy the DVD too to get more pointers on doing the exercises correctly. Great information about the body!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   October 26, 2009

The methods for stopping pain in this book really work - and in minutes! I highly recommend this book to anyone. Don't wait until you have real problems, use the theory in this book now. I was scheduled for knee replacement surgery, but followed the protocol in this book, plus changed to a more alkaline diet, worked out with weights, and added swimming to my workout. Presto! No surgery.

Attempts to get a good workout before alignment were futile - just causesd injury over and over. After doing the knee and back e-cises, I have no injuries. What a relief to have this "tool".

Now, I look around and see so many people suffering needlessly only because their bodies are out of alignment. What a shame. Conditions worsen as we attempt to be fit while out of alignment. Read this book and do the e-cises. It is effort well spent.

4 out of 5 stars I found many of the book's e-cises to be helpful   October 17, 2009
Dan McClure (San Diego)
I purchased the book based on the recommendation of a friend in the medical field and found many of the author's suggestions to be helpful. I am not in chronic pain (although I have some nagging shoulder problems) and was looking for some good sound advise to promote overall fitness and support my active lifestyle.

On the positive side, the book contains numerous simple exercises (called e-cises) and many of these were effective.

On the negative side, the author spends too much time trying to convince and motivate the reader. I found myself skipping around to get to the useful information.

Overall, I glad I purchased the book and have added it to my reference library.

5 out of 5 stars THE INFO IN THIS BOOK WORKS!!   October 12, 2009
John White (Kingsport, TN USA)
I bought this book in 1998 and it has changed my life!! I am not kidding. I have lower back problems, and had been in the chiropractor's office as many as 20 times/year. I started doing the exercises for my back and slowly my back improved. I like this book so much, I order it from Amazon and send it to friends that I find that have back problems. I have probably given away fifteen copies over the years. For it to work, you MUST be persistent with the exercises (every day!) and patient. It will take some time before you notice a differnce. Oh, by the way, I have not been in the chiropractor's office in over a year!

4 out of 5 stars Recommended to my patients   October 10, 2009

I am an occupational therapist and a certified hand therapist who works in a busy outpatient clinic. I had 2 different patients recommend this book to me, one of which actually bought it for me. I was a little skeptical, even though I am pretty open minded. I am a physically active 36 y/o who occasionally gets low back pain and most recently some neck stiffness. I've used the exercises on several occasions and after a day or so the symptoms always seem to subside. I'm not saying it's the answer for everyone, but it's definitely worth a look! I've even recommended to a few patients.
